This basketball sneaker, crafted in the ’80s by the renowned Steven Smith, known as the ‘Godfather of dad shoes,’ didn’t initially make the expected impact. During that era, styles varied, and a low-top basketball shoe wasn’t quite the trend. Consequently, the 550 quickly receded into New Balance’s vault after its brief initial popularity.

However, everything changed 30 years later with its re-release in partnership with Aimé Leon Dore. This collaboration breathed new life into the sneakers, finally earning them the acclaim they deserved.

The 550 then exploded onto the sneaker scene, injecting new vitality into New Balance and rapidly gaining significant momentum.
